About Us
MISSION: To be a voice of life and transformation in the South Side.
South Side Speaks began in July 2009 as a group of people committed to being a voice of life and transformation in the South Side. Our community is both culturally and economically diverse which is why we have chosen to focus our efforts into positively impacting the South Side in the following 3 ways:
- Acitities & Events for South Side Families:
Despite appearances, there is a lot more to South Side than just E. Carson St.; there is an entire community jam packed full of kids! We value family; which is why we care that South Siders have family oriented events & activities that can be enjoyed year-round! The BIG Hunt, The South Side Kids Fall Festival, The City Reach Community Block Party, and The Kids Life Family Bike Ride are just some of the annual family friendly events we host!
- Caring for & Connecting with the Homeless:
The homeless population of the South Side grows daily and we believe that it makes it that much easier for a homeless individual to get on the track to lasting change if they aren’t hungry, cold, or feel as if no one cares if they are alive or dead. It is for this reason that our team spends every other Friday evening with the homeless- providing them with food, personal hygiene items, a Bible, and a listening ear.
- Community Care Day Events:
It is not always the big projects or events that make the most difference in a community- sometimes it’s picking up litter on the street or helping a senior citizen with some projects around their house- that is what our monthly Community Care Day’s are all about! These projects are primarily generated as responses to requests for help from various South Side community organizations, businesses, or residents.
