South Side Speaks, tomorrow nite!

Woo-hoo!! Finally, tomorrow night (Wednesday) South Side Speaks will meet at the Brashear Association on the corner of 20th and Sarah St. We will be there at 7pm. Bring a friend or two, cause we’ll have plenty of room for all!!

Thank the Lord for providing in such a phenomenal way! He went before us and gave us exactly what we needed. What a loving, caring Father we have! He always provides where He leads. The fact we have a larger venue in which to grow reminds me that He already has the plan figured out.

So we continue to walk by faith, not looking at what we have or don’t have. We choose to believe  and trust in His Word. His vision. And as we take those steps, He will make a way. He will continue to do what we cannot do on our own. How wonderful to be part of His church!

If you have any questions, please email me at gretchenl@lifestonechurch.com. We will see you tomorrow at 7pm at Brashear!

Tonight will be our last time meeting at Brugger’s. Next week, South Side Speaks will make two transitions. First, we will be meeting on Wednesdays at 7pm, NOT Thursdays. We made the switch beacause the Brashear Association has graciously opened their doors to us for a much larger meeting space! We will be meeting at the Brashear Association on Wednesdays at 7pm beginning next Wednesday, November 4th.

The Brashear Association is providing the space for FREE! God really gave us favor and supplied exactly what we needed! Plenty of room to bring friends and families! The Brashear Association is located at 2005 Sarah St. Pittsburgh, PA 15203.  And we will meet there starting next Wednesday, November 4th.

Great Commission, South Side Style

This Thursday at South Side Speaks is going to be very special! We will be getting ready for Friday night- our very first outreach to the homeless community! If you have been looking for an opportunity to make a difference, here it is!

Thursday night at 7pm at Brugger’s we will meet to go over important details for Friday. It will also be a time to be encouraged and strengthened by the Word and get to know the team! Then Friday, we meet again at Brugger’s at 7pm to organize teams and items for the homeless.

If you have items you want to donate, please bring them with you on Thursday. If you have any friends, relatives, co-workers or strangers you meet at Giant Eagle who enjoy helping others, bring them with you on Thursday! What a great time to invite those around us! If you’re not sure if they’d like to go, ASK!  No harm done if they say no.

How interesting in Mark 16 when Jesus gives the Great Commission, He starts by “sending” them to their home town. Right where they live. Their city. Then He says to work outward from there to the ends of the earth.

We get to follow the Great Commission in a very real way on Friday. Actually, we have the opportunity to do that every day, but Friday we are joining corporately and focusing one particular area.

I also love how anytime Jesus served others, He never really said “So that you’ll join my synagogue” or “Because you are so needy”. No. Everything He did was to show people who exactly God is. And that He’s not far away. He’s very personal, approchable, huggable.

First and foremost the people we encounter Friday(and every day) are God’s treasures. His reason for living and dying down here. They are His sons, His daughters. Our brothers and sisters.

great faith, great service

The word Andy preached about personal ministry this weekend at APC was confirmation of what God’s been speaking to and through South Side Speaks! Great faith comes from great service!

By stepping out in faith, we increase our dependence upon Him! In our own strength, none of us are capable or qualified. But because of His call, His strength and His Spirit we have everything we need.

Personal minitry is a practical way to grow your faith. At South Side Speaks, we’re doing just that! Everytime we meet, we always achieve the goal of figuring out how to serve the community. This week, you have the opportunity to grow your faith.

All it will take is you showing up. Giving of your time, giving of yourself. Friday, October 2 at 7pm- Brugger’s Bagels we will be teaming up to be a blessing to the homeless community. Have an extra sweat shirt or jacket? Bring it. But most importantly, bring yourself and others who want to be a voice of life and transformation.

love your neighbor

This Thursday and Friday, Oct. 1-2, South Side Speaks is going to live out some Scripture. We’re taking God seriously and helping His dreams come true.

What is your reaction when you see a homeless person? Pity? Annoyance? Indifference? Or maybe is it one of compassion, a desire to do something to help our fellow brother or sister? Jesus made it quite clear in Scripture that everyone is our neighbor, and this week South Side Speaks is springing into action.

Thursday is very important, because we will be going over everything in detail that will occur Friday. Anything you want to donate- blankets, sleeping bags, winter clothes you know you won’t wear- bring it all Thursday.

Friday we will go out in teams to where the homeless community lives. We will be giving them more than just a shirt or shoes, we’ll give them hope. Life. Compassion. Most importantly, we will give them Jesus. We’ll show He is still the God of the poor. No matter what we look like, where we live- He died for us all. We are all the same in His eyes.

Here is some Scripture if you’d like to dig into what God thinks about those who have no home.   Leviticus 25:35         Isaiah 61         Luke 12,14,18        Acts 9,10,24

And look at your own life. We were all poor till Jesus came into our lives. Everything we have physically is from Him. Everything.

If you know anyone who would like to make a difference, this is the place. Bring them Thursday and Friday. I promise they will walk away more blessed than they can imagine. God is just like that.
